COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:
National Home Inspector Exam Prep Course
(8 hrs.) $250.00:

During this course, you will gain a basic understanding of how to take a test. You will become familiar with the structure of the questions found on the National Home Inspectors Exam. A sample test is included after a review of the topics included in the NHIE. Technical topics to be covered during this intense session include: Heating Systems, Air Conditioning and Heat Pumps, Foundations and Structural Components, Exterior Components, Roofing, Insulation and Ventilation, Attic and Crawl Space, Interiors, Fireplaces & Solid Fuel Burning Appliances, Electrical Systems and Professional Practices.

New Construction Phased Inspections
(8 hrs.) $250.00:
Don't be left behind in this growing field. Gain the experience necessary to inspect the builder's work and catch the conditions that lead to the problems you have been reporting on for years. Learn how to perform phased inspections of residential properties as the house is being built from the ground up. Technical topics to be covered during this intense session include: Sub-slab work, foundation wall placement, framing, roofing, mechanical rough-ins, electrical and plumbing rough-ins, insulation & ventilation verification and final grading. Also included is a discussion of different builder's warranties including their responsibilities. New construction field sheets will be given to each student to help in preparation of a final report.

Report Writing
(4 hrs.) $150.00:
Sometimes it's not what you say but how you say it (or report it). There are usually many different ways to get the point across to comply with national or state Standards of Practice. This course teaches inspectors how to prepare home inspections reports and protect themselves without using scare tactics or creating any animosity. There will also be an indepth discussion of the use of Pre-inspection Agreements and the clauses and language necessary to comply with national or state requirements.

Inspecting Antique and Historic Homes
(4 hrs.) $150.00:
Become an "old home" specialist. Learn the nuances of inspecting older homes. The sloping floors and sagging structural members may have been installed that way. This course concentrates on the construction techniques used to build homes over 100 years old. Some of the topics include slate roofing, galvanized piping, brick foundations, stone and rubble foundations, knob and tube wiring and mortise and tenon framing.

Creating A Financially Sound Home Inspection Business
(8 hrs.) $225.00:
This course is specifically designed for home inspection companies to help them manage their income and expenses to work toward a positive bottom line. You will be provided with an overview of QuickBooks Software and actually set up a chart-of-accounts specifically designed for your home inspection business.

You will create customer profiles and learn to manage your company's account receivable and payable. Once your company is properly set-up, with a few key strokes and click of the mouse, you can compile this information to create meaningful reports to manage the financial aspects of your home inspection business. You will also learn about class tracking; which allows you to track your income by department, inspector, city, taxes, real estate office or agent, or any other way that makes the information more meaningful for your business.

Synthetic Stucco Siding Evaluations
(8 hrs.) $250.00:
Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems (EIFS) is an inexpensive synthetic form of stucco siding increasingly being used for residential and commercial siding. If not installed properly, serious moisture problems can occur. Due to the common occurrence of these problems, the requests for this type of inspection are dramatically increasing. With the proper training, stucco identification and EIFS moisture analysis inspections provide the potential for a dramatic increase in business and profit.

This course will teach you how to identify both real (hard coat) and synthetic (EIFS) stucco. You will learn the proper procedures for installing EIFS and how to perform moisture surveys on a home sided with EIFS.

Basic Pesticide Training Course
(4 hrs.) $100.00:
This course is a prerequisite for Core or initial pesticide operator licensing and has been approved by the NJDEP. The course will assist you in preparing to take the examination required to become a New Jersey certified Pest Control Operator.

Roofing Inspection:
The emphasis in Roofing Inspection is on typical defects of the various types of roof coverings, drainage systems, flashings, skylights, chimneys and other roof penetrations. Students apply their knowledge of roofing to inspections that focus on system performance, safety concerns and compliance with codes and standards. This course can be taken as a refresher course or as part of the initial requirements for licensing.

Structure Inspection:
Structure Inspection focuses on the following structural components of a residential dwelling: foundations and footings, floors, walls, and roof/ceiling structures. Students learn to apply knowledge of structures to inspections that focus on system performance, safety concerns and compliance with good construction practices. This course can be taken as a refresher course or as part of the initial requirements for licensing.

Electrical Inspection:
Electrical Inspection prepares students to inspect the performance of the following components of electrical systems within residential buildings: service drops, grounding systems, service panels, wiring systems, devices and fixtures. This course can be taken as a refresher course or as part of the initial requirements for licensing.

Heating Inspection I:
Heating Inspections I covers installed heating systems (gas and oil furnaces, hot water boilers). Emphasis is on the inspector's ability to identify the energy source, type, material, condition and safety concerns as well as to inspect the equipment. This course can be taken as a refresher course or as part of the initial requirements for licensing.

Heating Inspection II:
Heating Inspections II covers vent systems, flues and chimneys as well as fireplaces, other wood heating appliances and electric heating systems. Students apply knowledge of these systems to the role of a home inspector. This course can be taken as a refresher course or as part of the initial requirements for licensing.

Air Conditioning and Heat Pumps Inspection:
Emphasis on Air Conditioning and Heat Pumps Inspection is on cooling systems and heat pumps. Students learn to identify typical defects and apply correct inspection techniques. This course can be taken as a refresher course or as part of the initial requirements for licensing.

Plumbing Inspection:
Plumbing Inspection prepares students to inspect in a residential dwelling, the interior water supply and distribution systems (including fixtures and faucets), as well as water heating equipment and drain/vent/waste systems and their related fixtures. This course can be taken as a refresher course or as part of the initial requirements for licensing.

The course is offered as part of our Fast-Track or Nights-and-Weekends class schedule. The course covers the content required by the NJ Home Inspection Advisory Committee for initial licensing as approved by the NJ Department of Education.

Exterior Inspection:
Exterior Inspection covers retaining walls, grounds, window wells, lot grading, driveways, patio, walkways, decks, balconies, stoops, steps, porches, railings, wall cladding, flashing trim, eaves, soffits, fascia, as well as exterior doors and windows. Students learn to describe the exterior wall covering and inspect all aspects of the exterior. This course can be taken as a refresher course or as part of the initial requirements for licensing.

Insulation and Interior Inspection:
Focus is on the inspection of thermal insulation, vapor retarders and ventilation systems, as well as the inspection of interior elements of residential dwellings such as walls, ceilings, floors, basements, doors, windows interior stairs/railings, installed countertops and cabinets, and garage doors/door openers. This course can be taken as a refresher course or as part of the initial requirements for licensing.

Communication and Professional Practice:
The professional home inspector is required to both verbally and in writing to describe the inspection process and communicate inspection findings to the client. It is imperative that the home inspector be able to communicate clearly and effectively to ensure understanding of an inspection once conducted. Students in this subject develop their oral and written communication skills and learn the reporting requirements and proper conduct of a professional in this industry. This course can be taken as a refresher course or as part of the initial requirements for licensing.

Refund Policy: BICI reserves the right to cancel any class or seminar due to insufficient enrollment. A full refund will be issued when a class is canceled by BICI. If your schedule changes, you may attend a different seminar or send a substitute at no charge. Cancellations received prior to 10 days before the seminar will receive a refund, less a $25 processing fee. No refunds if canceling within 10 days of seminar.
